Welcome to the INFO Page for Private Clients of
DSL Edgework & Let-Go Yoga Therapy:

DSL Edgework is a manual, Soft Tissue-focused, medical massage therapy for reducing or eliminating chronic, excess muscle & nerve tension & stress (or C.E.M.&.N.T. for short).

Myo-Structural Balancing is the method for developing the strategy of which muscles to work with, and in what sequence.

Let-Go Yoga is a low-intensity, highly therapeutic Breathing, Exercise & Stretching Technique. … Postural Yoga Therapy is designed to work with hands-on techniques to further reduce or eliminate C.E.M.&.N.T.

C.E.M.&.N.T. is responsible for a surprisingly high number of symptoms and conditions in the nerve, muscle, fascial, and joint structures of the body. This can also affect the metabolic systems.

Small & Large Intestines are Subject to Excess Stress & Tension

For Example: the small and large intestines are in part made of smooth muscle (rather than the more familiar skeletal muscle) and are subject to accumulating chronic, excess nerve & muscle tension and stress.

As these smooth muscle fibers get chronically stressed or “tight,” they can no longer push digested food through the intestinal tract, leading to many different conditions and symptoms, even diseases, beginning in the digestive tract.

Gentle, low-intensity pressure is applied to the surface of the abdominal muscles, waiting for them to relax. As they relax, the therapist can sinker deeper into the abdomen, toward the intestines, with no pain for the Client. Then, since the intestines are so close to the surface, the manual pressure on the intestines begins a relaxation process of the intestinal muscles.

ALSO, the intestines are in contact with the Vagus nerve, which emanates from the brain, and produces muscle tonus in the intestines. Anything you do to any other parts of the brain can produce a systemic relaxation, which helps the Vagus nerve normalize, reducing the excess nerve activity to the intestines. As such, the intestines can very often begin relaxing without direct contact.

The more the intestinal muscles relax, the better the function is, and very often, any chronic discomfort begins to dissolve as well. Therefore, intestinal issues often reduce or stop all together as the muscles of the intestines relax.

For those familiar with Homeopathy, DSL uses therapeutic levels of low-intensity, “homeopathic doses” of manual pressure and yoga postures (conscious stretching), to release tension & stress, the C.E.M.&.N.T. in the physical body.

Is DSL Similar To Other Therapies?

DSL Edgework has similarities to more overtly therapeutic massage techniques like neuromuscular therapy (NMT), myofascial release (MFR), deep tissue therapy, shiatsu (acupressure), and structural integration (such as Rolfing®).

Yet there are many significant differences. …

Practitioners of DSL Edgework draw on the best and most up-to-date medical sciences behind the above listed therapies. We then, based on in-depth knowledge and sciences of how the human bodymind really works, and a strong set of principles, developed a Transcendent Advancement in soft tissue therapy.

Yes, I know that “quantum” word gets overused, and it seems a bit “esoteric” (the meaning probably or intended to be understood by a few people with specialized knowledge). However, if we look further at the definition of Quantum ...

It has to do with very small QUANTA (discrete quantity) of energy producing more-or-less unpredictable changes at micro (very small) levels, yet (most of the time) VERY predictable at macro (very large) levels.

For Example: A laser light (a device built on Quantum Physics with a lot of help from Newtonian Physics), is used in CD players to read the music disc. The result of the laser reading the disc is EXACT and PRECISE every time you play it. It is not subject to what you’re thinking or feeling about it. Or if it is, the effect is essentially imperceptible.

The DSL Edgework Practitioner performs therapy with, usually, lower intensity of pressure — lower levels or “quanta” of “energy” inputs — meaning less manual pressure & movement applied to the Client’s soft tissues (skin, muscles & fascia). It tends to start out much lighter than many other therapies.

And, because of the complexity and variability of the human bodymind, we often really don’t know what exactly is going to happen in the early stages of therapy. Yet most of the time, the bigger changes we’re expecting do show up … sometimes sooner, sometimes later.

Unfortunately, due to the structural individuality from person-to-person, muscles, fascia & nerves (soft tissues) do NOT usually respond on a highly predictable timetable or pattern of results. Their highly variable “timetable” depends on the Client’s lifelong history, what they’ve been through in life such as accidents or trauma, kinds and intensities of exercise, and so on.

There is often a period where therapeutic work is also detective work, using the treatment itself to further evaluate the soft tissues and understand what they need.

Much of this change happens because DSL Edgework Practitioners are not focusing on “treating the muscles & fascia.” We are contacting those tissues with our hands in order to “talk” to the central nervous system (CNS) & Brain. If we send the “right messages” to the CNS, without also sending contrary messages (such as pain), the nervous system and brain will make the soft tissue and structural changes we’re looking for.

NO Pain Means MORE Gain

Therefore, we use a NO Pain, MORE Gain Philosophy of Therapy.

This way, lower intensity — homeopathic* doses — of manual pressure, stretching or exercise will produce the bigger, sometimes profound changes we intend and our Clients hope for.

* Homeopathic: Treatment by Similars … We don’t use the little white pills most homeopathy employs. Yet we DO use a lower-dose theory of manual pressure or stretching to reflect back to the nerve systems of the bodymind how much resistance the soft tissues — the psycho*-neuro-musculo-fascial units — are generating.

* And by “psycho” we are NOT referring to a “psychiatric” condition, but to the dictionary definition: relating to the mind or psychology or from the Greek, breath, mind or soul.

All action of the human bodymind involves the nervous system, and much of it involves the brain. And the mind and psychology, such as the vast number of memories stored in our nervous systems, play a great part in much of that action. That is why we include “psycho” in the term psycho-neuro-musculo-fascial.

Activating the Parasympathetic Nerve System in turn activates the healing, regenerative, rebuilding, immune functions of the human body. It is lower-intensity stimulation to the nerve system that maximized parasympathetic nerve functions.

While we do NOT find it true that a person “must” believe in a therapy for it to work, it can be very helpful if they are at least open-minded to new possibilities. Open-mindedness means some layers of resistance will not be interfering as much as someone who is convinced it is NOT going to work.

Yet even THEY are sometime very surprised that, YES, it DOES work despite their disbelief!

Evaluation Preparing for
Treatment Strategies

Yet before beginning providing therapy, the DSL Practitioner invests some time in getting to know your Health History and your Health Objectives to help create a Treatment Strategy. Depending on how complex your situation is, this history, combined with a Postural Evaluation, might, if necessary, get very comprehensive.

While initial evaluations can be less than 30 minutes, some are MUCH longer, mostly if a person has had many injuries, traumas and/or stress events in life.

Some Clients say we find and figure out more than most physicians or other therapists ever have or do, allowing the Therapist and Client to come up with more thorough insight into the nature of their conditions and then develop effecticient* therapeutic strategies.

* Effecticient = effective + efficient, because they should come at the same time!
